Wendler 5-3-1

A lot of people have been asking me for the specifics on the 5-3-1 strength program some of us are using.  I refilled the folder at the front desk with fresh printouts but for those of you who are more electronically inclined, here is the link:

Jim Wendler’s 5-3-1

Jim also shares a lot of his thoughts and training philosophies on T-Nation and they are always a good, no-nonsense read.  Click the T-Nation link on the left to go to the site.  When Jim talks, it’s worth listening because he was one of the strongest lifters of his day.  He’s pretty funny too.

Hi Sean, Great article. I love the straight-forward approach. I’d be interested to hear how you’re incorporating this program into the WODs, ie are you doing some of the lifting before/after WODs, on days off? Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen. I (along with some others) have been doing this program in the morning at either 5:30 or 6:30 and then doing the WOD in the afternoon. The nice thing about the program is that it doesnt tax your Central Nervous System (CNS) too much so you can still perform well if you do 2 workouts per day. if this doesnt work in your time schedule, you can just pick 1 or 2 lifts you wat to get better at and do that once per week and continue to do your WODs like normal. One thing you dont want to do is focus too much on 5-3-1 and not give enough time to Crossfit. this should be a supplement, not the primary training system.

Thanks Sean. Sorry took me a while to get back to check your response. Appreciate the insight.
