Why CrossFit?

CrossFit is the most effective way to achieve greater fitness and health. Bold statement, we know. We welcome anyone to present evidence to the contrary.

CrossFit is evidence-based fitness, meaning we back up any claim we make with measureable data. And that data is work capacity and time. Numerous data has been collected illustrating CrossFit’s effectiveness in improving work capacity across broad time and modal domains. But what does that mean?

CrossFit produces what we believe to be a truly functional fitness level that is highly transferable to virtually any physical task, including all athletic pursuits as well as everyday activities. By its nature, CrossFit produces a broad, general, and inclusive fitness. Meaning it prepares you to do well at any task, including the unknown or unknowable. CrossFit utilizes training formats derived from gymnastics, olympic weightlifting, running, and numerous others. Combat, survival, many sports, and the demands of everyday life reward this kind of fitness and, generally, punish the specialist. This is the fitness we seek. We do not seek specialization.

Additionally, combining CrossFit with a healthy diet (which we will cover in future posts) has been shown to improve any medical measure of health, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, body composition, bone density, etc. It has helped many recover from orthopedic injuries such as back problems, shoulder and knee injury, etc., as well as minimize rate of recurrence.

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. However, CrossFit programming is designed for universal scalability. This means the intensity and/or load (weight) can be adapted for any committed individual, regardless of age or experience, and produce extremely effective results. The physical needs of an elite athlete and our grandmother differ by degree, not kind. Military special operators, firefighters, athletes, former couch potatoes, and housewives have found their best fitness using the same program.

CrossFit develops life changing fitness. It will improve your health, well-being, athletic performance, and overall happiness in ways that you wouldn’t believe.

You may ask yourself: Is CrossFit Right for Me?

If you are someone who:

•Is looking to get in shape but can’t face going to a gym;
•Has lost interest in your gym routine;
•Thinks you don’t have time to exercise;
•Is looking to get faster or stronger in your sport/activity, OR
•Is no longer seeing results with your current training regime;

Then CrossFit is for YOU. Every workout is different. You will learn and become proficient in essential functional movement, but you will rarely do the same WOD twice. You are less likely to lose interest or get bored than if you were doing the same circuits at the gym three days a week. Because our workouts are rarely more than 45-60 minutes long, they can fit into even the busiest schedules.

We’ve seen many people who have been disappointed, often led to believe by others in the fitness industry that using their weight machines 3-4 days/week and sprinkling in 30-45 minutes of “cardio” on the elliptical/treadmill/bike/stairstepper (take your pick) was going to lead to some incredible level of fitness. And it didn’t. And it never will. We look forward to providing the service, results, and community that so many have been searching for.
